Piazza Sant'Antonino

This is one of the most important squares in Piacenza. In the early medieval period it was the centre of the civil, religious, and economic life of the city, where the connection road between Via Postumia (heading to Pavia) and Via Emilia also included part of the Pilgrim’s Way to Rome (Via Francigena). Between 350 and 375 AD Vittore, the first bishop of Piacenza, had the first core of the basilica built here, out of the city Roman walls.

The square is dominated by Sant’Antonino basilica (11th century), dedicated to the saint patron of Piacenza, which still preserves his relics.
