From 16th December 2018 until 17th March 2019. an Exhibition dedicated to the figure of Hannibal

The Municipality of Piacenza and the Foundation of Piacenza and Vigevano are organising an exhibition dedicated to the figure of the Carthaginian general Hannibal in order to rediscover his political and cultural heritage.

The Piacenza's exhibition, sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Activities and Tourism, will be in particular focused on the role of the town, that was the scene of an important battle between Romans and Carthaginians in 218 BC, at the center of the expansionist strategy of the Roman State and, in addiction, to the events that openend the possibility to Hannibal to conquer the Italian peninsula.
The exhibition will offer to the visitor important and significant works distributed in six thematic sections:In the sign of Heracles; Hannibal's faces;Hannibal in Italy;Hannibal's adventure; The end of a romantic hero;Piacenza and Hannibal's legacy.

The exhibition will be arranged in the basement of Palazzo Farnese, one of the most important buildings of the town, built in the 50ies and 60ies of the 16th century, upon will of duchess Margaret of Austria, wife of Ottavio Farnese.
